Following up on proposals by several others,' Blair and Kaserman have thoroughly examined the current system of kidney procurement in The Economics and Ethics of Alternative Cadaveric Organ Procurement Policies. They advocate an alternative which, they argue, would lead to a greater yield of kidneys for transplant. They find that a market system for obtaining consent for kidney donation would be the best means of alleviating the shortage.
